Calcium Silicate Units such as Renaissance Stone
are high density, severe weathering structural masonry units. They are not made from cementious materials, they are pressure formed and autoclave cured.
To the designer and installer, this means that these calcium silicate units have a slightly different set of
detailing requirements. Unlike cement based units,
calcium silicate units do not exhibit shrinkage due to initial drying. Therefore, it is not necessary to specify & install continuous joint reinforcement the way we would with cement based veneer units (see right collumn). When used in conjunction with brick veneer, the expansion joints in the brick simply continue through the calcium silicate units at the same spacing.
